Why me?” No, that’s not Mike Ribeiro faking an injury — it’s figure skater Nancy Kerrigan after being clubbed in the leg a few weeks before the 1994 Olympics. Kerrigan’s questions were soon answered, when police charged Jeff Gillooly, the husband of rival U.S. skater Tonya Harding, with orchestrating the attack. The ploy worked, as Kerrigan’s injury gave Harding a spot on the U.S. team, but she stumbled to eighth place in Lillehammer. Harding soon put the shame of that incident behind her, replacing it with the shame of a porno tape, several run-ins with the cops and a career as a celebrity boxer.
