16.5K runners Father and Son Finisher's Medal Main Creative - KOTR 2013 Thousands vied for 2 spots to be compete at the Singapore leg of the King of the Road 2012

Runners, it’s time for you to gear up because adidas is now opening the registration for this year’s adidas King of the Road (KOTR), happening this July 7 at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The 2013 edition of the adidas KOTR will allow runners to choose between the 16.8K and 10k race categories. The 16.8K-distance will have two sub-categories—Closed, which will be exclusive for Filipinos, and Open category for all nationalities. Male and female runners who will top the race from the Closed category will be crowned as the Philippines’ King and Queen of the Road and will represent the country in the adidas KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in Malaysia later this year.

On the other hand, the 10K-distance will have an added feature this year, the Student’s Relay category. The Students’ Relay category, created to encourage the youth to lead a healthy lifestyle, will be open exclusively to college and university students 25 years old and below. One male and one female student need to partner up and form a relay team, with each running a 5km leg. The winning pair will win cash prizes individually as well as for their respective schools.

The regular 10K race will still be held, which is open to all runners interested to join this distance. Prizes also await runners who will top the said categories.

“The brand’s battle cry is All In, as adidas continues to support and encourage people to be the best they can be in whatever interests they have —be it sports, fashion, or music” says Jason Gervasio, adidas Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager. “In the case of KOTR, adidas is showcasing its commitment to sports by bringing together and empowering runners from all over the Philippines and Southeast Asia, giving them a chance to engage in their passion for running.”

Southeast Asia Roads Lead to Malaysia

adidas is not only encouraging runners to compete within their countries. As part of its drive to provide the best experiences for its consumers, KOTR will once again be held in different legs across the SEA countries.

To date, the first adidas KOTR SEA Regional Championship held in October 2011 culminated in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, involving participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. The success of this multi-country race inspired the brand to make the event a regional annual tradition. Hence, the KOTR SEA Championship Year 2 was organized and held at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore in 2012.

This year, participants of the KOTR SEA Championship will get a chance to run through the streets of Malaysia. The final race will be held in October, where winners from Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will be joined by the KOTR SEA Championship Closed Category participants from the host country itself. Only one winner each from the Male and Female divisions will be crowned as the adidas Southeast Asia King and Queen of the Road.

PXC-35: The Return of a Champion

February 11, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento is back to defend his PXC Lightweight
Championship

PXC is set to rock Manila AGAIN on February 16th, featuring a Lightweight
Championship & some of the best rising stars of MMA from the Philippines,
Guam, California, Hawaii, Japan, & Korea.

For people who can’t get enough of action, there’s nothing better than
watching a good old fashioned brawl. Come February 16, there is going to
be plenty of that and more inside the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City as
the Pacific X-treme Combat, Asia Pacific’s biggest and best mixed
martial arts organization, once again rolls into the country with PXC-35.

PXC has already established a name throughout Asia Pacific and its arrival
in the Philippines last June 2011 cemented their reign as the premiere MMA
organization by attracting the best fighters from the all over the world.
With its most recent installment, PXC again makes its way to the
Philippines to put a show in front of thousands of MMA fanatics.

“We are very excited to kick off the year with great matchups at PXC-35
in the Philippines,” says PXC CEO, EJ Calvo. “The card features
fighters from all over the world along with rising MMA talent from the
Philippines,” Calvo adds.

PXC-35 scheduled 9 action-packed fights to be headlined by a Lightweight
title fight between Filipino talents Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento
(35-24) and Isaiah Ordiz (2-0). Coming off a disappointing loss to fellow
Filipino-American Mark “Mugen” Striegl in PXC-34 last November, the
veteran Sarmiento is set to bounce back and defend his belt against the
young blood, Ordiz. This is surely a battle between a veteran and future
star of the sport.

In addition, the match between American Alvin Cacdac (11-9) and undefeated
Hawaiian Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka also draws attention primarily
because the winner will most likely be the next contender for the
Flyweight title currently held by Filipino fighter Ale “The Young Gun”
Cali.

The PXC-35 fight card also includes Team Lakay’s Troy Bantiag (4-1) vs.
Guam’s Tony Reyes (5-5), Japanese Chuji Kato (3-1) vs. Korean Top
Team’s Hong Seung Chan (2-0), and Hawaiian Ronald Jhun (24-24) vs. Swede
Zebastian Kadestam (3-0).

Other homegrown Filipino talents featured on the night are Dario Banario
(2-0) vs. Joseph Mercado (1-1), Ruel Catalan (1-2) vs. Ernesto Montilla
Jr. (0-1), Adrian Hillana (1-0) vs. Steve Grandeza (0-1), and Glenn
Ranillo (1-2) vs. Mark Billena.

PXC-35 expects nothing but fireworks all night as fighters punch, kick and
sprawl their way all for the glory of being crowned PXC victors. “We
hope to see everyone at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City on the 16th
of February and we promise you that it is going to be an exciting night of
fights,” Calvo says.

Pacific X-treme Combat will hold the following events at the Holiday Inn
Manila Hotel in Pasig City

Leo Messi wins the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for the 4th year in a row

January 12, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Only seconds after Leo Messi was awarded his fourth consecutive FIFA Ballon
d’Or – a feat no other player in the history of the game has achieved-
adidas reacted with a purpose-made film congratulating the world’s greatest
player. The film is an entirely gold-painted animation, featuring a Messi
goal from 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. It celebrates Leo’s four golden years
of majestic, thrilling, balletic football.

Richard Swarbrick, the artist entrusted with the challenge, acknowledges,
having the chance to paint Messi in gold has been an “absolute joy”, but
not without “a few sleepless nights.” He paints every single frame by hand,
before using ‘Photoshop’ and ‘After Effects’ to animate.

In the film, adidas wanted to include what they had hoped – and believed -
would be Leo receiving his fourth ‘World player of the year’ award. This
meant having Richard and a team of “loyal animation assistants” on standby,
ready to finish it in record time. “We wanted to make sure we reacted to
the news faster than anyone else…but with something quality that we can all
be proud of.” A feat that seemed appropriate considering who the film was
about.

As per Santi Araneta, “McKinley Hill football field is complete! Home of the UFL!” I’m happy for UFL fans and football aficionados in general. Pitch looks lovely in the photo. Hoping that lots of seats are in place.  I just hope too that it is “putik” proof.
