adidas King Of The Road 2013: all in for your alma mater
May 21, 2013 by .:. · Leave a Comment
2013 is the year of running for adidas.
Last February, adidas launched Energy Boost, a groundbreaking innovation in running footwear technology featuring superior cushioning that allows runners to store and unleash energy more efficiently with every stride.
To continue their efforts for all things running, adidas is back with its annual King of The Road (KOTR), one of the most anticipated races across Southeast Asia. This year, adidas is pushing the limits for KOTR to be even bigger than before as it opens a new category exclusively for students 25 years old and under.
The 10K Relay for Students is set specifically to encourage the youth to get into a healthy, active lifestyle and to give them a chance to represent their alma mater. Students need to team up in pairs – one male and one female – with each running 5K to complete the total 10K distance. Winners don’t just get individual cash prizes; they will also win prizes for their schools.
“adidas has always been an advocate of health and wellness through sports. The King of the Road is a testament to that fact,” said Jason Gervasio, Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager of adidas Philippines.
“The new School Championship category aims not only to promote fitness, but also to inspire teamwork and pride as students are given the chance to be ambassadors of their respective campuses.”
The adidas KOTR 2013 will be held on July 7, 2013 at Bonifacio Global City. Apart from the School Championship category, the race will include distances of 10K for the general public and 16.8K with Open and Closed categories. The Closed category is strictly for Filipinos while the Open category is for all nationalities.
The top male and female winners from the 16.8K Closed category will be hailed as the Philippines’ King and Queen of the Road and will represent the Philippines in the KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in Malaysia.

All In for the Biggest Race Across Southeast Asia adidas Philippines Opens Registration for the Annual adidas King of the Road 2013
May 3, 2013 by .:. · Leave a Comment
Runners, it’s time for you to gear up because adidas is now opening the registration for this year’s adidas King of the Road (KOTR), happening this July 7 at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
The 2013 edition of the adidas KOTR will allow runners to choose between the 16.8K and 10k race categories. The 16.8K-distance will have two sub-categories—Closed, which will be exclusive for Filipinos, and Open category for all nationalities. Male and female runners who will top the race from the Closed category will be crowned as the Philippines’ King and Queen of the Road and will represent the country in the adidas KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in Malaysia later this year.
On the other hand, the 10K-distance will have an added feature this year, the Student’s Relay category. The Students’ Relay category, created to encourage the youth to lead a healthy lifestyle, will be open exclusively to college and university students 25 years old and below. One male and one female student need to partner up and form a relay team, with each running a 5km leg. The winning pair will win cash prizes individually as well as for their respective schools.
The regular 10K race will still be held, which is open to all runners interested to join this distance. Prizes also await runners who will top the said categories.
“The brand’s battle cry is All In, as adidas continues to support and encourage people to be the best they can be in whatever interests they have —be it sports, fashion, or music” says Jason Gervasio, adidas Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager. “In the case of KOTR, adidas is showcasing its commitment to sports by bringing together and empowering runners from all over the Philippines and Southeast Asia, giving them a chance to engage in their passion for running.”
Southeast Asia Roads Lead to Malaysia
adidas is not only encouraging runners to compete within their countries. As part of its drive to provide the best experiences for its consumers, KOTR will once again be held in different legs across the SEA countries.
To date, the first adidas KOTR SEA Regional Championship held in October 2011 culminated in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, involving participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. The success of this multi-country race inspired the brand to make the event a regional annual tradition. Hence, the KOTR SEA Championship Year 2 was organized and held at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore in 2012.
This year, participants of the KOTR SEA Championship will get a chance to run through the streets of Malaysia. The final race will be held in October, where winners from Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will be joined by the KOTR SEA Championship Closed Category participants from the host country itself. Only one winner each from the Male and Female divisions will be crowned as the adidas Southeast Asia King and Queen of the Road.

adidas crowns the King of the Road this 2011
November 3, 2011 by Nicole Eunice Jabines · Leave a Comment
I have to say, the King of the Road was colorfully-winning! Definitely better than KOTR events in the past years, this year’s KOTR is one of the most attended, not to mention star-studded, running events of 2011.
Hope it gets better next year. Who knows, with the lockout, maybe D.Rose might grace the Philippines’ aKOTR… –Hmmm. OK, not. I pray he’s not getting all flabby with all these cancelled NBA games though.
The adidas King of the Road (KOTR) came to a vibrant and colorful close at the Bonifacio Global City grounds as thousands of participants fought to the finish as they vied for the ‘adidas Southeast Asia King of the Road 2011’ crown.
Exemplifying the brand’s exceptional commitment to sport, the adidas KOTR has unified runners from all around Asia – with participants from Thailand, then Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The race then culminated here in its first ever host country, making Philippines the ultimate race destination. Represented through the variety of different coloured adidas singlets, the multi-colour showcase is meant to demonstrate the vibrancy of the sports scene across Southeast Asia.
The adidas KOTR was a testament to the keen and enthusiastic participants overflowing with energy as early as three in the morning as they prepare for the very first gunstart at 5AM. With three different categories varying from 5K, to 16.8K and 21K, the routes make for an enjoyable and pleasant race day. adidas definitely delivered the race of a lifetime, creating an experience where runners not only challenged themselves but also achieved personal breakthroughs. Celebrities who made personal breakthroughs in this race are Robi Domingo, Rich Hardin, and Karylle . Even Iza Calzado, Will DeVaughn, Kim Atienza, and Rovilson Fernandez went all in with at the adidas King of the Road race.
The 16.8K category is the most distinctive signature distance this year as winners from the previous legs in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia were flown in to represent their countries. Taking home the King of the Road 2011 crowns are I Gusti Gede Karang Asem with a running time of 57:58 and Mary Joy Tabal with a runnning time of 1:04:44 for our 16.8K Southeast Asian winners, David Mutai with a running time of 54:41 and Esthar Karimi with a running time of 1:02:07 for the 16.8K Open Category; John Philip Duenas with a running time of 54:41 for the 16.8K Closed Category; Kimbert Sarmiento with a running time of 15:59 for the 5K Category; and Frederick Mwingirwa Mathiu with a running time of 1:10:12 for the 21K Category.
With the availability of premium running products and training platforms, adidas provides runners with the tools needed for a better run—whether it’s finishing the first marathon or breaking a personal best. From the adiNation of Runners, a running community formed to help motivate and train running enthusiasts to train together on a weekly basis; to the launch of the adidas miCoach virtual training system, nothing else gets a runner more prepared for a race than adidas. Race analysis and photos will be made available 3 weeks after the race day at www.runrio.com. Did You Know? Only a Week to Go!
October 12, 2011 by Nicole Eunice Jabines · Leave a Comment
Well, ok, a week and a half ’til the much awaited King of the Road 2011… so have you claimed your adidas King of the Road race packs yet?
If not, tonight’s your last night to do so! So run along now. Booths are open ‘til 11 pm.
However, Coach Rio dela Cruz of runrio cited that it’s better to drop by before 9pm, so you can catch all of the sponsors’ booths still open.
I got my race pack last night. Although I was wishing I’d get the pink singlet, I’m really excited to wear the blue one on October 23rd. Here’s what your race pack should contain, too:
1. KOTR 2011 Tote Bag
2. KOTR 2011 Singlet
3. Race Bib
4. KOTR 2011 Timing Device
5. Other Freebies from Sponsors
I’m ready and getting set for it!
But wait! Before we psyche ourselves further and get to GO, I’d like to share some fun stuff about the aKOTR with you…
DID YOU KNOW…
1. … that Tessa Prieto- Valdes and the boys, Slick Rick, TonyToni and SamYG hosted the aKOTR press launch? ?
It was made more exciting by Rich & Rich of the Amazing Race Asia, Christine Jacob-Sandejas, Kelly Misa, Amanda Griffin, Anthony and Maricel Pangilinan, Vince Hizon, Karen Paminutan and Coach Rio De La Cruz. So that means… we’ll probably see them there. Who knows. You might score a photo op. (*fan mode on*)
2. …that Adidas KOTR 2011 was held in 5 countries and will culminate in an ultimate championship race here on Oct. 23, 2011? Expect around 20, 000 participants to be there!
No worries, for us local runners, there will be a “closed” category and an “open” category for those running with the other Southeast Asian delegates.
This was the schedule of the adidas KOTR in the different Southeast Asian participating countries:
- Adidas KOTR Thailand – May 15, 2011
- Adidas KOTR Singapore – August 28, 2011
- Adidas KOTR Indonesia – September 25, 2011
- Adidas KOTR Malaysia – October 2, 2011
The winners of each of the other four countries qualified for an all-expense paid trip to the Philippines to compete for the Asia Championship. So don’t back out now, besides paying for the reg fee, why not take part in giving them a running experience to remember? ?
3. …Adidas KOTR 2011 has a theme titled ‘Colours’ represented through the variety of different coloredd adidas singlets each participant can wear. The event can become the most colorful event of the year.
However, we can’t really choose the singlet color. No worries, all the colors are nice. If you and your friends registered, it’s ok to exchange singlets. Just not the timing chips and race bibs.
4… that finishers, regardless of event, will get medals?! So if you’re a noob to running, this event will make winner out of you.
5… that the Race Pack Collection is from October 10-12 from 11am-11pm at the NBC Tent?
Please be reminded to bring the following:
1. Confirmation Letter
2. Valid ID that you used for registration.
If you are outside Metro Manila:
All participants from the provinces and overseas who are unavailable for the Kick-Off may claim their race packs on the race day at the Bonifacio Global City on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 3am-4am only. Please present your KOTR confirmation letter and valid ID used for registration. No requirements or incomplete requirements, no race pack.
SO THERE! See you on Race day!
Countdown to the adidas King of the Road 2011
October 7, 2011 by Nicole Eunice Jabines · Leave a Comment
I’m excited! And if you registered for the adidas King of the Road 2011 (aKOTR), you probably are, too!
So I tried my best to reach the right mileage to finish in time, and we are down to the last two weeks.
Remember, getting there doesn’t mean pushing yourself too hard before race day. Risk getting injured, and you probably won’t be there to enjoy the event. By now, runners should be more or less prepared to hit the road. Oh, and start hydrating! Pre-event hydration will help a lot to condition the body. (And by this, I don’t mean minutes or hours before.)
If you’re a first time King of the Road runner, newbie, or getting back on track, no pressure! adidas made this event for everybody who dares getting in the wind– first, second or third!
While you are psyching up, here are a few reminders from adidas. Read on and see you at the kick-off!
(Yes, we all want our race kits!)

Gear up for the adidas King of the Road race
July 15, 2011 by .:. · Leave a Comment
Running races aren’t always about your speed or passing through the finish line, it goes beyond your physical abilities. Races are a great way to motivate yourself to get fit and can also be a platform for personal breakthroughs. Running makes you test your limits, but also makes you able to believe in yourself by taking control.
The race is not the only thing that is important. The preparation and training involved leading up to the race can prove even more exhilarating than the race itself. Many may not know how important it is to be ready on race day. With only a few months to go until the King of the Road race on October 23, most runners participating in the race are getting physically prepared to run the 5k, 16.8k and 21k course. You have to put a lot of thought into a lot of things – whether it’d be getting the proper running gear, eating a nourishing diet, and do so much more. Surely, nobody wants to cross the finish line exhausted and in pain. Here are a few tips that can get you closer to being crowned as this year’s King of the Road.
1. Do your homework. A lot, or even just a teeny-tiny amount of research can help. Look at the route of the map and get a feel of what you will be getting yourself into. You can also look at the terrain to see the downhills, uphills, ridges, etc that can make an impact on your running performance. At least when you have an idea of where these spots are, you’ll be able to have a good indication of where the course gets tough.
2. Get the perfect shoe. There are all types of great running gear to get you through training. The first thing you’ll need is a new pair of running shoes. Without a good pair, you can expect lots of pains in your legs and lower back. When buying the right shoe, keep ventilation, cushioning and comfort in mind. Ask help from the sales associate about various choices today.
3. Carbs, carbs, and more carbs. Carbohydrates are the most common source of energy, so when preparing for a run, you really have to load up on the carbs. If you’re one of those people on a low-carb diet, you better stop now. The best sources of carbohydrates are fruits, sweets, soft drinks, bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, and cereals.
4. Never underestimate stretching. Most of the time, beginning runners finish a run and find themselves tight and sore, sometimes even resulting to a running injury. A 15-minute stretch after every run makes all the difference. The soreness is lessened, muscle flexibility is increased, strides are longer, and long term injury is prevented.
5. Listen to your body. A common error many runners make is underestimating the effort involved when training. When unprepared, you risk exposing your body to some serious running injuries. It is essential to listen to your body, slowly upping the mileage and adopting a method in which you alternate tough, thorough workout with rest or some soft, easy workouts, giving your body a lot of time to recover.
Remember, even after reading all these tips, you still have to prepare yourself mentally in finishing a personal breakthrough such as this. Held in five countries across the region, the adidas KOTR will culminate in an ultimate championship race in its first ever host country, the Philippines, making it the ultimate race destination in Asia on October 23, at the Bonifacio Global City. Event categories and race fees are Php1, 050.00 for 5km, Php1,300.00 for 16.8km, and Php1,050 for 21k. Simply visit www.adidaskingoftheroad.com to register!

HYUNDAI ACCENT RUN: VENUE CHANGE
March 25, 2011 by Nicole Eunice Jabines · 1 Comment
So everybody’s officially excited about the only FREE fun run this 2011 so far!
Of course I’m talking about the HYUNDAI ACCENT RUN happening on April 2,2011 and I can’t stop talking about it just now. Slots were gone a few days after registration opened, and I’m lucky to have secured a slot.
(I’m getting a free singlet, it’s for a good cause, plus hopefully I start to get rid of all the cellulites I developed over almost a year’s worth of stagnation. Boo torn ACL!)
See, I really want to make a comeback, and Hyundai is definitely making things happen. So, what’s your story? Why do you love running?
I hope I see you guys at the run. Let’s sweat and check out the new cars Hyundai has to offer too.
BUT WAIT! Before you all imagine how you’ll all look when the run pictures come out, be sure you go to the right venue, where EVERYTHING is going to happen.
We’re still running this out on April 2, but instead of heading to Bonifacio High Street, let’s head down south to Quirino Grandstand, not only to run, but to start the celebration: 10years of Hyundai in the Philippines!
Yes, you heard me right. Venue is moved from BGC to the Quirino Grandstand because Hyundai decided to open more slots so more runners can join. Opening Ceremonies start at 4:30 am.
Thanks, Hyundai for adjusting their number of registrants. If you have questions/ comments, please let us know.
